CropVistas User Guide

User Guide

Welcome to the CropVistas User Guide! This guide will help you navigate and use the CropVistas app on your mobile device. Please note that this version of the user guide has been adapted for use without imagery, focusing on text-based instructions to support the Google Play app.

1.  Getting Started - Mobile Device

1.1 Mobile Device Specifications

To ensure optimal performance, we recommend using mobile devices with the following specifications:

  • Display: Please refer to your device's specifications for display details.
  • RAM: 4GB or higher.
  • Processor: 2.7 GHz or faster.
  • Software Version: CropVistas is designed for devices running Android version 6.0 and above, with the best performance on Android version 11.0 and above.

1.2 Mobile Device Setup

For most CropVistas operations, no special setup or configurations are required on your mobile device. However, when using CropVistas for field data collection, we recommend following these simple setup procedures:

1.2.1 Rotation Lock

To prevent data loss when rotating your device, disable the rotation feature. You can find instructions for disabling rotation in the settings of your Android phone or tablet.

1.2.2 Display Always On

To prevent interruptions during data collection, keep the display always on. Adjust the display timeout settings on your Android device to ensure it stays active. Instructions for changing the display timeout can be found in your device's settings.

2. Getting Started - Application

2.1 Home Page/Main Menu

The CropVistas app features a Home Page that serves as the main menu. Here's a brief overview of the functional groups accessible from the Home Page:

2.1.1 Resources

This section allows you to inspect, manage, and create various resources used in CropVistas.

2.1.2 Traceability

Access and manage all Critical Tracking Events (CTEs) created during planting or harvesting operations.

2.1.3 Data Sync

Synchronize data between the local data repository and the CropVistas online data store (available for "Enterprise" account users).

2.1.4 AgGateway

Provides access to the AgGateway AGIIS public site via a published REST API. This section is for demonstration purposes only.

2.1.5 Op Management

Contains tools to view and analyze CTE data collected during planting and harvesting operations. Also provides access to the Operations Setup menu.

2.1.6 Planting

Access all applications used to collect traceability data during a planting operation. This includes both a single-user system (available for "Free" account users) and more sophisticated systems (requiring an "Enterprise" account).

2.1.7 Harvesting

Access all applications used to collect traceability data during a harvesting operation. This includes both a single-user system (available for "Free" account users) and more sophisticated systems (requiring an "Enterprise" account).

3. Resources

3.1 Common Workflow

When working with resources in CropVistas, the workflow for inspecting and creating new resources is similar across all resource types. While there may be differences in the "New Resource" menus and presented icons, the overall process remains the same. Here's an overview of the common workflow:

  1. Select the "Resource" button in the main menu.
  2. Choose a specific resource to view a scrollable list of all current resources of that type.
  3. Use the icons provided to edit, display identifiers and classifications, or delete the resource.
  4. To create a new resource, select the "Plus" icon and follow the provided UI for defining a new resource of that type.

3.2 Container Assets

For traceability of harvested commodities, it's crucial to record transfer events. Each transfer event should be associated with a container asset. Here's how you can work with container assets in CropVistas:

3.2.1 Viewing Container Assets

To view the existing container assets, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home Page/Main Menu, select the "Resources" section.
  2. Choose "Container Assets" to access the list of container assets.
  3. Scroll through the list to find the desired container asset.

3.2.2 Editing Container Assets

To edit a container asset, follow these steps:

  1. Access the list of container assets as mentioned in the previous section.
  2. Locate the container asset you wish to edit.
  3. Tap on the "Edit" icon associated with that container asset.
  4. Update the necessary fields, such as the container name, description, or any other relevant information.
  5. Save your changes to update the container asset.

3.2.3 Displaying Identifiers and Classifications

To view the identifiers and classifications associated with a container asset, follow these steps:

  1. From the container assets list, locate the desired container asset.
  2. Tap on the "Identifiers" icon to view the identifiers associated with that container asset.
  3. Similarly, tap on the "Classifications" icon to view the classifications associated with the container asset.

3.2.4 Deleting Container Assets

To delete a container asset, follow these steps:

  1. Access the list of container assets.
  2. Locate the container asset you wish to delete.
  3. Tap on the "Delete" icon associated with that container asset.
  4. Confirm the deletion when prompted to remove the container asset from the system.

3.2.5 Creating a New Container Asset

To create a new container asset, follow these steps:

  1. Access the list of container assets.
  2. Tap on the "Plus" icon to create a new container asset.
  3. Follow the provided user interface to enter details about the container asset, such as the container name, description, and other relevant information.
  4. Save the new container asset to add it to the system.
  5. Traceability

4. Critical Tracking Events (CTEs)

CropVistas offers traceability features to track and manage critical tracking events (CTEs) during planting or harvesting operations. Here's how you can work with traceability in CropVistas:

4.1 Accessing Critical Tracking Events (CTEs)

To access the CTEs recorded in CropVistas, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home Page/Main Menu, select the "Traceability" section.
  2. Choose the appropriate option for the type of operation you want to view CTEs for, such as "Planting" or "Harvesting."
  3. You will be presented with a list of CTEs for the selected operation type.

4.2 Viewing CTE Details

To view the details of a specific CTE, follow these steps:

  1. Access the list of CTEs as described in the previous section.
  2. Locate the CTE you want to view the details for.
  3. Tap on the CTE to open a detailed view with information such as timestamps, associated container assets, and any additional data collected during the operation.

4.3 Editing CTEs

Editing CTEs in CropVistas is not supported. However, you can add additional data or annotations to a CTE by creating a new event associated with the original CTE.

4.4 Creating New CTEs

To create a new CTE, follow these steps:

  1. Access the list of CTEs for the desired operation type.
  2. Tap on the "Plus" icon to create a new CTE.
  3. Follow the provided user interface to enter the necessary information, such as timestamps, container asset associations, and any relevant data.
  4. Save the new CTE to record it in the system.

With these features, CropVistas empowers farmers and agricultural professionals to manage their operations effectively, ensuring transparency, traceability, and streamlined workflows throughout the planting and harvesting processes.
